Black History Month Tech Resources

Due to a lack of information published about African Americans and their history, a week in February was designated as Negro History Week back in 1915. Since 1976, the week has now become a month and we celebrate Black History Month in the month of February because of the birthdays of two influential people. History of Black History Month

As we celebrate Black History Month and honor the contributions that have been made by African American’s, use these websites and tech resources from some of our favorite edtech sites!

  1. iCivics

Watch, Learn and Do with iCivics Black History Month resources. From animated videos to assignable lessons, and DBQuests you students will be engaged with these resources.

Grades 4-12

 

PBS has a complete celebration for Black History Month. They have lessons and activities for Literature & Media, The Arts, Civic & Society, and STEM. There is also a Block Party! Through the month of February, they have found different streamings for history, music, documentaries, science or genealogy for everyone to enjoy!

Grades K-12

 

Take your students back to the 50’s and 60’s with this Comic Book Hero activity for 3rd grade through 5th grade. Students will experience what times were like during the civil rights movement through comic book drawings. This site also has more resources on National Standards aligned for Historical Thinking, History, World History, and English Language Arts.

Blooket is a fun, interactive way to get your students excited about reviewing or learning something new.

Kahoot! also has some great engaging activities. There are some free and paid options. The picture shows a few activities available for Black History Month. Just like with Blooket, you must have an account to see these resources.

Use this Jeopardy like game about famous African Americans. Play this game as a class with teams or have students play in partner pairs. Spelling must be correct to get credit for the question!
